Paintings of jungles and gardens are thick with all manner of plants and creatures. Meditative and serene, you can spend hours on safari hunting for the hidden bugs and creatures hiding amongst the foliage.

Janet describes her process like this: "I paint and sculpt mainly from my imagination. I create a story in my mind, and then I try and create it on canvas or in clay."

The other thing that we really enjoy is that Janet breaks the norm and deliberately composes on interestingly shaped canvases: narrow vertical or horizontal rectangles. This can create wonderfully alive compositions. Another bonus is that these paintings can fit perfectly into any home with an odd narrow wall between, say, a couple of doors or a tight corner. Join us and see the world that comes from this beautiful imagination!

ARTIST'S RECEPTION
First Friday Artwalk, May 6th, 6-9pm.

WORK ON VIEW
May 5th to July 31st, 2011

GALLERY HOURS
Thur. to Sun., 12-5pm, 9pm First Friday of each month

ARTFX GALLERY
420 N. 35th St., Seattle, WA 98103
206.545.7459 • artfxgallery@comcast.net • www.artfx.net

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 388px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wjDfOqIwp_M/TXMjvTBJuBI/AAAAAAAAAIY/v-W6Ro9oyro/s400/dcp_1854.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5580843658708105234" />

Corner Studio and Gallery and Janet Wold Art present their first group show of the season.

The new March Show is appropriately titled, “Spring” with the show emphasis on the return of our favorite birds. The show will feature songbirds, lovebirds, small pond & field birds, and backyard squawkers. With more then 25 regional artists participating, the mediums and styles run the gauntlet. There are paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolors, as well as mono prints, hand colored etchings, and encaustics. For those who love 3 dimensional works, there are sculptures of birds in enamel, wire & glass nests, ceramic mixed media forms, and various birdhouses. We have jewelry artists in the show who have created special pieces for the spring theme: welded metal nests and winged pendants /pins, miniature wire nests filled with pearls and beads, necklaces and rings, and creations in natural stones, minerals and gems in bird designs and spring colors. There will also be beautiful cards, yard art, miniature birds and Janet’s little peckers.

The show opens March 9th, and will run through April 6th.

Corner Studio and Gallery and Janet Wold Art

2831 Wetmore Ave, Everett, WA.

The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday 11- 3 PM, and Fridays 11- 5 PM

Artist’s reception during Art Walk March 19th, 4-8PM, for a printable map visit www.everettartwalk.org

cornerstudioandgallery@gmail.com

www.cornerstudioandgallery.com

www.JanetWoldArt.com

2831 Wetmore Ave

Everett, WA. 98201

425- 231-3815 cell

360-658-7022

Call For Art

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 382px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GtznkQCs490/TSpaatr4-UI/AAAAAAAAAIM/lNHQDbeqmwM/s400/8074%2B001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5560356104929081666" />

Song Birds, Love Birds, and Little Squawkers

Corner Studio and Gallery
2831 Wetmore Ave
Everett, WA. 98201
360-658-7022

Show runs from March 4 - April 6, 2011

Artists’ reception on Art Walk, Saturday, March 19th, 2011. 4 – 7pm

Spring themed show with emphasis on small birds. My year was mostly favorable, and I did learn a few things.
We only have one week left until the first of winter, and the beginning of longer days. I don't mind winter, but I do hate that it gets dark so early. I think 7PM year around would be nice.
I will be staying on at the downtown Everett studio and gallery, though my hours will change. I plan to continue working in the studio, but my OPEN TO THE PUBLIC hours will be greatly reduces. I hope to find the right mix of work time, retail time, and fun time.
Wishing you all a creative new year and a fun and safe holiday season.
Janet

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 314px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GtznkQCs490/TI6Bd-Cnm2I/AAAAAAAAAH4/Wjm5tb8mi-Q/s400/5b,+Wold,+Play+sm.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516488945445608290" />
Hello Art Friends
For my one year anniversary at the Corner Studio and Gallery, I have decided to do a benefit for two well deserving Animal Charities. I present the Dogs Days of Summer show, and hope the weather will cooperate.

Dogs, cats, horses & pigs will be featured for this end of summer show. The painting will be hung Paris Salon style, which basically means floor to ceiling and wall to wall. I have rounded up all my animal paintings, along with my private collection and offering them at below value prices to the public September 10th - October 7th.
50% of every animal painting will go to animal charity. I have picked 2 groups that go above and beyond, but I am glad to donate to your favorite animal charity with your purchase. Happy Paws Farm in Arlington (no kill shelter) loves and houses hard to place dogs (many Katrina Rescues) and now have a new shelter to save feral cats. Homeward Pets of Woodinville (no kill shelter) nurses, loves and shelters cats & dogs, while finding them good homes. If animal art is not your thing, I have many other non animal art pieces in the gallery to choose from (my paintings, jewelry and sculpture).
Opening reception is this coming Saturday, September 18th, 4 -7 during Art Walk, and I will also have a dog friendly reception on Thursday, September 30th, 4- 7 PM

www.cornerstudioandgallery.com
cornerstudioandgallery@gmail.com
2831 Wetmore Ave, downtown Everett
www.everettartwalk.org ; for printable map of all art locations

Pain in the Neck

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GtznkQCs490/TGyyjAMrK8I/AAAAAAAAAHg/YGzWR-hQcsc/s400/wold,+night+swimmers.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5506972758785600450" />
Hello Friends
It looks like my pain in the neck maybe a bit more serious then a few vicodan and a ice pack. I tried a week long massive dose of steroids, and while they reduced the pain a bit the numbness and electrical jolts have gotten worse by the day. The pain drugs, don't touch it and I have tried more then a few kinds. I have given up on that kind of relief. I had a MRI today and then a visit with Dr. Klein. He gave me some options and I choose surgery which seemed to have the best percentage of a full recovery. I decided to have the surgery ASAP. I need sleep and a month of a numb hand has been enough. So, Monday morning at 530AM, I will be going in for prep and a 730 operation, which includes a little bone clean up and a metal thingamajig hooked to my neck bones to help stabilize the area and keep the new space form collapsing. Giving those nerve a chance to live happily every after. It will be a while before I get into the art gallery, as driving is a no no. A range of motion problem, but only for 10 days. I feel a bit better just knowing something is going to happen.

Summer News

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 265px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GtznkQCs490/TDa92jg9ZYI/AAAAAAAAAHY/z9mkWZ7ZDiM/s400/wold,+night+in+the+garden,+acrylic+on+canvas+(5).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5491785540568966530" />
The Art of the Garden Show opens July 8th - August 19th for location and times see www.artscouncilofsnoco.org
Art Walk is the 3rd Saturday of each month. I am still there my same hours; Tues, 2 - 6, Thurs 10 -2 and Friday 2 - 6. So those hours I am guaranteed to be open. The other member of the studio is not always reliable, so it is chancy other times. She is usually there on Saturdays, but if you are coming form out of town, please call and set up a time. The studio/gallery is located at 2831 Wetmore Avenue, in downtown Everett, WA.
A BIG THANKS to all of you who helped make this possible.
www.JanetWoldArt.com & www.ERA-HorseHaven.org

Art Walk opening Hay 4 Horses

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GtznkQCs490/S-7pbHO1bfI/AAAAAAAAAHA/zTYExsgsF3c/s400/Wold,+Back+40+(4).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471567249308741106" />
Art Walk , May 15th www.everettartwalk.org
Hay 4 Horses group art show and benefit for rescued horses is hung and looks fabulous. Both Jane and I are donating a portion from our regular hanging work as well.
www.janetwoldart.com
The Corner Studio & Gallery, the working space of Janet Wold
2831 Wetmore Avenue, downtown Everett,
open Tues & Gallery

Call For Art

Hello Friends, Artists and Horse Lovers.
I am hosting a fund raiser for Equine Rescue of Marysville. I will be opening up my gallery space to house a show to benefit the horses.

HAY 4 HORSES

I am looking for art that is horse or loosely horse related, landscapes, barns, etc. I realize potential buyers may want to support the horses, but may not want equine art. The gallery will take no commissions from this show. Art work can be donated at a 100%, 75% or 50% rate. There will be greater leeway for subject matter and materials for those pieces donated at 100%. We have lots of lovely wall space, but also very visible and appealing window ledge display space for small paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and jewelry ( these windows get sun).
The show will be hung May 6th &7th,and will remain up through June 14th. Art work can be delivered anytime before the 6th. (see below for hours)
All pieces must be hand delivered unless other arrangements have been made. Pieces must be ready to hang or display and be of reasonable weight and size.
We will take all precautions to protect your work form damage and theft, but as always, bad people steal and accidents happen, and we are just two nice gals trying to make a go of it and we cannot replace or buy your art. Keeping that in mind, we will treat each piece honorably. Unsold pieces can be picked up June 15th, 16th & 17th, 1:15 - 6 pm. We will pay artists after the show and as soon as checks clear. Equine Rescue will send a notice of donation.

Equine Rescue is a charitable organization 501 ( c ) 3.
They have an all volunteer staff and currently have 31 horses.
You can learn more about them at www.era-horsehaven.org

If you have questions please call me, Janet Wold 360-658-7022 or JanetWold@gmail.com Please put the word “horses” in the subject line.

The gallery space is located on the NE corner of Hewitt and Wetmore, in downtown Everett, just 4 blocks up from the Comcast Arena. Drop off times Tues. 1:15 - 6, Thurs 1:15 - 4, and Fridays 11:30-7pm. We are there other times too, but you will have to let us know as we are in and out. We will be open Tues. - Saturday during the Horse show.

I could tell you all the sad story of these horses, but they all come from some state of deprivation, abandonment or abuse, and Equine Rescue has taken on these noble creatures and saved them. The organization has no outside funding. They are entirely dependent upon private donations. Let’s sell some art and save some horses!

The Corner Studio and Gallery
2831 Wetmore Ave, Everett
Janet Wold 360-658-7022

Art Studio, Art Walk & Unclad Art show

Hello, I am still here. I am sorry to be away for so long. Like most of you working stiff, I just got busy and If you know me, computer time isn't my thing. So those two things and much more added to my neglect of the blog.
The downtown Everett studio continues to BE, which is very happy news. It is also the reason I have been so busy. I have been trying to stay open to the public as many days a week as possible and still continue creating and spending quality time with the family. My studio partner has been busy this quarter, so she had to cut her hours at the studio down to Saturdays only, so our open hours have been curtailed, but it looks like Jane may find some additional morning hours to open the studio in response to some of you who have requested earlier hours. I have taken on a much needed yoga class several times a week which unfortunately is at noon. I do feel a bit guilty about closing down during the lunch hour, but I really need this class. I didn't know how badly until I started going.
Anyway, it seems spring is almost here and we hope to continue making new art for your eyes and minds.
The last few weeks we have had Jeff Kirk as our guest artist. He does a pop style of artwork in reverse painting on glass. Not that easy to wrap your head around when you hear his process. His work will be on display in the front windows through the 18th of March.
This weekend is the start of the Unclad Art Show 2010, at the Gallery by the Bay in Stanwood. It is going to be a spectacular show. I had a sneak preview this week and I was really impressed. You can check out the art at www.uncladart.com
Art Walk is the 20th of March from 4-8 pm. Now that the new Red Door Gallery has opened next door there is even more reason to come downtown Everett for art walk. We will be open at the Corner Studio and Gallery, work place of Janet Wold, along with Wise Designz, Liz Geiger Studio, the Red Door Gallery and of course Lowell Art Works. We are on the corner of Wetmore and Hewitt, at 2831 Wetmore Ave. www.JanetWold art.com

The long road to spring

I get very excited once we have made it past the longest day of the year. I like to check the sun up and sun down times daily rejoicing in the smallest gain of time. I measure the days in how late I can take Lucy out for a walk and how long we can stay out. A clear day can be such a bonus, but it can be miss leading since we have so many days shortened by our usual weather. I have been a spinning. I am taking a few days to catch my breath, appreciate all that I have, and do some baking. I will be getting back to the studio next week and plan to start a new series of oil paintings. I just hope my paints are OK. They where out in the garage during the last two freezing spells. Oh, yeah the Everett studio is on going. Jane and I continue to share the large space on Wetmore & Hewitt. It is a cold old building, but who can complain with all the windows and the good company. We have plenty of room to work, with wonderful display areas. Besides the gallery and work space we have a wonderful junk room, with lots of fun stuff to play with, assemble, read or hang, and the prices couldn't be better. We are right on the corner with plenty of parking so access is easy, and our landlord seems happy we are there. Our open to the public hours are going to be cut, so we can get some work done, but if you are in the area feel free to stop by and give the door as knock.

Holiday Sparkle Sale

Art in Great Spaces presents:
The Women Artists of Wetmore Holiday Art Fair

December 4th & 5th, 10 am-6 pm located in downtown Everett

2815, 2829, 2831 Wetmore Avenue. They are located in the Pike Place market. I will be there from 6 - 8 pm, and I hope to see some of you there. They will be having goodies and they validate parking, see their site for map and other info. www.LocalColorSeattle.com
Galapalooza was a great success. I love that event. I was in a bit of a whirlwind, and I didn't have the time or space to get all the vintage jewelry, old oddities and hat pins, feathers, fabulous rhinestone buttons and what not out. So I am going to do a little wearable art fair right at the studio. My studio mate Jane Steele-Meagher, will have her fabric and clay jewelry creations along with the fabulous Maggie D , who will be adding to the vintage sparkle with jewelry, handbags, linens and so much more. This will take place December 4 & 5th from 10-6. Just in time for holiday dress up and gift shopping. We will be serving up some fun too! 2831 Wetmore Ave, Everett. The studio is now open 6 days a week from 11:30 - 2:00. Although you may find us there in the late afternoon/evening or by appointment.

Galapalooza

Hello, Art Friends!
Several art happenings are coming up this weekend.
1st. My pictures and bio will be posted on their site in November, and I will be there 6-8pm on the 7th. www.LocalColorSeattle.com

Fall Colors

We are already in the 3rd week of fall with Halloween just around the corner. The costumes are coming out of the closet, and party planning is in full swing. Little kids are dreaming about mountains of candy. I personally love the bags of individually packaged miniature candy bars, malt ball, and sugar babies. This is stuff that wouldn't make it past the front door if it wasn't for the holiday.
The painting on this post is from my "The Color Inside" series, of 12 x 12 inch acrylic paintings. This piece has some very nice deep fall colors. As I painted this series I tried to visualized what a person would look like if they were color mapped. What color would their emotions be? What color would their mood be? How much space would happiness take up, and what color would it be for each individual.

Studio will be open until further notice

This weekend is the Crazy Sale at the studio. It is basically a garage sale with some art, vintage china, glass & books, jewelry, natural wonders and lots of oddities. The oddities are going fast. The studio was supposed to be closing next week, but the Artists In Great Spaces, program has had a very nice response in Everett, and I have been asked to continue my stay. I will be moving out the non art g-sale items and moving my art, and my paints back in to the studio October 5th. This time I have asked artist Jane Meagher to join me in my space at 2831 Wetmore Ave, in downtown Everett. Just a few block west of Comcast Arena and Event Center. We hope to collaborate on a sculpture piece and our space should be open more days with the two of us sharing the space. Please check back for times next week. Until then GO DAWGS! Speaking of dogs, Lucy as turns out is a good studio dog. She love the place, and settles right done to lay in the sun, and she gets lots of greetings and treats.

Art Walk

This is my 5th week in the downtown Everett studio, and things are finally in place.
This weeks hours are: Tuesday and Thursday 11:30 -4
Friday 11:30 -6
This Saturday is Art walk in Everett. I will be open from 4 - 8pm, along with Wise Designs and Lowell Art Works.
I have 3000 square feet of art space, at least that is what I've been told. I have totally filled my studio space with paintings original prints, miniature masks and more.
I have windows on two full sides, and it is a bit like being in a fish bowl.
To celebrate this great program (Artists in Great Spaces) I have temporarily put every piece of art on sale, most pieces are half off their listed price, but just for the next 2 weeks. We had lost contact with them over the years, but we have always been curious to know how the family and Lucy's sister are doing. They recently read about me and my art in the paper and sent me a note. It seems Lucy's sister just had knee surgery. I guess this really pulls true for the lab, genetic group theory. Lucy is still in recovery from her second knee surgery, but she is just a month away from freedom, but not the unrestricted kind of the past. There will be no more jumping in and out of the car and truck. No more jumping onto our extra high bed. We will stay clear of those big logs at the beach, and keep her just a bit closer on the trail. Her leg are doing splendidly. Now if we could just get her to relax when it rains, thunders, or the neighbors Chihuahuas bark, we would be totally there.
On other fronts, the painting from last weeks post sold at the studio. Yippee for me! Besides the Everett studio/gallery I am also showing dog and cat art at Paddywack, in Mill Creek and the Mapleleaf Vet in Seattle. As always a donation to animal charity is made with every purchase of art. This weeks posted hours in Everett are Tues, Wed, Thurs 11:30 - 6, Friday 11:30 -2, Saturday 12 -3. I take appointmentws too. Hope to see you soon. www.janetwoldart.com

Art ist in Great Spaces

I am up and running. This is a collaboration between building owners and artists to expose both the buildings which are for lease and the artists in them. Artist will be place in storefront throughout the downtown core. I will be at 2831 Wetmore Ave. It is a wonderful location on the corner of Hewitt & Wetmore, just up from the Comcast Center. Coming up next week, August 17th, I will be taking over a large corner building in downtown Everett. For the next 6 weeks this well be the home of Janet Wold Art Studio and Gallery. This is part of a partnership, between building owners and artists, put together by the city of Everett and The Snohomish Arts Council. I am honored to have been chosen to be part of this project. I plan to make the best of my time , by packing the place with art, opening the doors and welcoming the community to come by for a visit. I will be painting and doing a variety of other art projects. I am also looking for suggestions on a recycle project using tin can lids. I have been saving them and this is the time to find a fun way to use them. Please come by for a visit, bring you paint stuff and join in the fun. I have not figured out my schedule yet, but I will definitely be there on Tuesdays and Thursday, from 12-4. I will post the other days and hours once I get setup. The address is 2831 Wetmore. It is on the NE corner of Wetmore and Hewitt. The building has blue awnings and is just 2 blocks west of the Comcast Center. There are artists in 6 other locations and I am fortunately just across the street from Wise Design. So I am with good company. www.janetwoldart.com

Animal Adoptions

Hello Friends
I wanted to give a quick update on the Pet Plaza event at Mill Creek a couple of weeks ago. The event was a great success. Over the weekend 15 cats and 15 dogs found new homes. That is a smashing success in the pet rescue and adoption circles. Many people made donations, but as always more is needed on and ongoing basis. The cat shelters have been running at capacity, making adoptions and foster care needed more then ever. I just visited Homeward Pet in Woodinville and found it to be one of the cleanest, most peaceful shelter environments I have ever seen. Their volunteers work hard to keep it nice and make sure there is plenty of loving going on. I was really impressed. If you are in need of a pet pal, they have a wonderful group of dogs, pups, cats and kittens. All are socialized and well cared for. Check out their web site for more information. www.homewardpet.org. And as always I donated a portion of all animal painting from my web site to animal charity, as well as donate art work. www.janetwoldart.com

Mill Creek Festival

I have to admit I almost missed this event. I put it on my calender for next weekend. Yikes! So, sorry for the late notice. The event is this weekend, July 18th & 19th, from 11 -6. The festival is a nice mix of arts & crafts, food, entertainment, dog sports, cars and more. I will be showing my art in the Pet Plaza, along with my friends at PaddyWack. There will be a big dog dock, for the pros, but your dogs can give the dock a try too. I love the little town of Silverton, and have an eye on it for my next move. It is a sweet little town with a historic core, very arty, and all the modern businesses you need just outside the main downtown. Portland and Salem are a skip up the road, and the big blue ocean is only a couple of hours away. We stayed at the Oregon Gardens Resort, which is practically brand new. This made it extra nice in the rooms. The gardens are great to walk in the morning and evening, entrance comes with the room. We hiked up at the Sliverton Falls. The temperature was pretty hot, so after a couple of days we headed to the coast for a little breeze. The Oregon coast is so accessible with so many public beaches, and state parks. We traveled up the coast to Astoria, which it turns out has a pretty neat downtown. There is great architecture though out the town, some great bakeries, small unique restaurants and some fun and funky galleries and shops. Who knew? We continued north and checked out Long Beach for some nice dog friendly places to stay on a future trip. We found the area to be much improved since our last visit. The boardwalk above the beach, and paved trails through the dune grass is wonderful. We had a great time, but it is always nice to get home. www.JanetWoldArt.com

The Color of Freedom

This photo is of a commissioned painting I did for the city of Everett in Washington. I love sitting outside in the evening with a cool drink, and a book or magazine. I like to close my eyes and listen to the birds calling good night to each other. I hear the muted sound of the baseball game coming from a radio, the last of the kids noises dying off with the sound of a mother calling and screen door slamming. Somebody is finishing up there lawn mowing, and a hammer is tapping out a beat somewhere in the neighborhood. With your eyes closed you can start to pick apart all the sounds. It is amazing the symphony of sounds all playing together to make up a concert on a nice warm evening in the back yard. It's the sound of summer coming.
www.janetwoldart.com

Unplugged

Hi Friends and art lovers
Summer is almost here and the days are getting nice and long. The time is right to get out your summer garb and free yourself from all the heavy clothes of winter. With that said, one of my paintings is featured in the Flying House Magazine this month to promote the "Unplugged" cappella concert put on by Seattle Men's Chorus. This painting of a summer shirt, what we used to call Aloha Shirts, traces the I-5 route from Vancouver, BC to the Mexico boarder. In the design of the shirts fabric, I tried to hit on fun places of interests and some characteristis of places along the route. I am sure I left out a few, but forgive the artistic license. The theme of unplugging seemd perfect for a nice long road trip. The finished image struck me as such pure energy and joy. I liked the jumping jack so much I painted it twice. One painting is daytime, the other at night, but both with the same enthusiasm, for me as the painter and the dog in the painting. He has hope and a goal, but mostly that little Jack Russell has confidence. He knows he can get that ball as it come flying by. He doesn't second guess himself, he doesn't hesitate, or have a moment of doubt. He is free to jump as high as he can, never doubting that he will get what he is after. Sounds kind of corny, I know, but boy do I wish I could jump more often and higher then I do. Take more chances and have more outrageous goals, not worrying about the out come, but just dreaming the dream. Everything is growing at a rapid pace. If it wasn't for the snails and slugs it would soon be a jungle. It is really a delicious time of year. So rich, so fragrant and so soft. It would be nice to get a few more dry days, but this is somewhat normal for the NW and with Global Warming, long wet periods are just part of the package. Anyway this post is about "Pig Art". I painted a few Pigs in the last few weeks. It is not my usual subject, but I was stimulated by a story of a pig so desperate to escape his early demise, that he jumped off a moving truck and made his getaway. Unfortunately he didn't escape with out injury and a concerned citizen called Pasado's Safe Haven, who came and rescued the poor pig. They nursed him back to health and happiness. The Pig is now 800 pounds and living a wonderful life on their farm. You can read the whole story and others on their website at www.pasadosafehaven.org and you can see more art at www.janetwoldart.com

Dooley's Dog House

Hello Animal and Art Lovers
May 9th I will have my dog and cat paintings in Kirkland, Wa. , to help promote animal adoptions. Each artist is asked to create a piece of art from a hubcap. The hubcaps were dug up out of a landfill and very in size, weight, make and model. I asked for two hubcaps to use in a sculpture piece. One was from a Ford and the other larger hubcap was from a Dodge. They were both very heavy and kind of neat on there own. I tried to use all used materials, that where either headed to the dump or headed to the thrift store. I call my piece, "Hub City Twirl A Whirl". From bottom to top: hubcap, large juice can, old metal bread basket line with can lids and reflective disks, hubcap, metal bowl, with neat legs, metal napkin ring, the plastic top off a detergent bottle, and the plastic handle off a dead scrubby. The seats are made from left over frame wood, hung by wire, covered in black straws from last weeks mocas. I used a little paint, some nontoxic gliter glue, and to hold it all together I purchase a metal rod, place through the center. For a little more fun and to put in the twirl, I put the whole thing on a lazy susan that I took out of my spice cabinet, and Kazam! She twirls! The showers are here, the budding leaves, the crocuses, and the grass is getting greener. March winds have been blowing all month and the snails and slugs are already out. It even smells like Spring, which is a rather nice thing. My yard has suffered a lot of weather related damage this winter. We had a great deal of blow down, snow down, and freeze. OH! and the flooding. I would like to forget the flooded creek in my back yard that turned into a raging river. It left behind some substantial sandbars, but the creek is deeper and maybe that will help the salmon when they come back. The only draw back to this Spring is my dog Lucy. She is getting better everyday from her knee surgery, but the extra load bearing of all her weight on her other (good) knee made it give out too. So now the poor thing limps on both back legs. She will be going into surgery for the other knee in about four weeks after a little more recovery from the first operation. Yikes! She smells Spring right outside the door, and it is making her crazy. She smell the little night critters coming out of their winter homes and she longs to get out there and chase something, dig something up, roll in some awful stuff and howl at the moon. Spring can do that to a dog, but Lucy will have to miss it all this year. She is supposed to be confined, kept calm and not more then 3 very short walks a day, very short. If all goes well she will be running, digging, swimming and rolling in the stinky stuff by mid summer. Looking forward to it. www.janetwoldart.com

Unclad Art 2009

This weekend is the opening for the 2009 UNCLAD ART show in Stanwood, Washington. This is a beautiful show, with some giggles too. If you can't make it to the show all the art is online at www.uncladart.com
I have two pieces in the main gallery and several smaller pieces in the gallery gift shop. This piece is sculpted in polymer clay and mounded on a painted metal base. She is bound by copper wire and adorned. She stands approx 16 inches tall.
To view my other sculptures see my web site at www.janetwoldart.com

In other news, Lucy is doing very well. Yes, I said get around. She is walking/pulling to get out in that sunshine. She is only allowed two 5 minute walks, but she gets every minute of it. She is making such good headway, we can finally breath a little. Her morphine patch came off last night, and today she had an appetite. So that was another little triumph. I can tell she is still very disappointed with us especially when it comes to medication time, but I am feeling positive we/she will put this all behind us. Yowza! I was so happy to finally get her back. Her leg looked much worse then I imagined it would. In fact it was pretty ghastly. We had done our research so we should have known it was going to be bad, but when it is your own sweet dog, it is very hard to take. My stomach has been in knots for nearly a week, with worry, sadness and self pity. I pray each day will be better for her then the last. Better for me and my hubby too. I've been throwing myself a pity party every night with a little wine, some tears and then raiding the cupboards for goodies. Lucy has a long recovery ahead of her, but for right now all I want is for her to get a good nights sleep and eat. For a chow hound she has eaten very little since shes been home. She doesn't trust that we aren't packing all the food with drugs. If I cannot get her to eat tomorrow I will have another thing to worry about. Yikes! My poor poor baby.
Who is that doggie in the window. Lucy was the model for this fun painting. Today I took my dog Lucy to the vet for the second day in a row. Not her choice. She was terrified. I felt so sad and guilty. She trusts me. What must she have been thinking as I walked away from her. She is having knee surgery today, which I now understand is not unusually. I was surprised that it cost $4000. I am just thankful that we could afford to give her the surgery she needs, even though I feel so guilty for it right now. The Vet is fairly certain that she will need the other knee done within 2 years. I just hope somehow she understands and can trust me again. Then there is the long recovery stage, were the poor thing must be restrained for 8 -10 weeks. A dogs life it won't be for sometime. No playing, no running, no jumping, no fun, and what is a dogs life with out the fun. It will be hard on all of us, but after reading several blogs on the same subject, I know that we will all pull through a bit frayed, but ready for action by the time summer roles around.

Unclad Art

The 2009 Unclad Fine Art Show is coming up again in March. If you haven't been to this show it is worth a look. They always have so many really beautiful pieces. I will have two sculptures in the show this year and will put photos of them up on the blog in March. In the mean time you should visit their web site, for times and activities.
I've included a photograph of one of my 2008 pieces. I love this little sculpture. It was a challenge to make, but I think it turned out very well. I sculpted it in polymer clay over a simple armature. My aim was to make it look like an artifact, one that had suffered, but survived. Capturing the color of an old patina on metal, was a complicated process, one I didn't record unfortunately.
You can see more of my work at www.JanetWoldArt.com and you can see the new Unclad Art Show at www.Uncladart.com.

Singing in the Rain

Even though winter is still technically here, there has been a spring feel in the air the last couple of days. I thought this would be a good time to show one of the paintings I was commissioned to do for Flying House Productions. The photo is of a painting by me Janet Wold, and is featured on the spring 2009 promotion for the Seattle Men's Chorus. The show is named "Singing in the Rain", so you can just imagine what wonderful music will be featured in this spring show. You can view my tuxedo shirt painting as well as some of my other work at
http://www.flyinghouse.org/press/artwork.asp , and while you are at it you can view the ticket information for this show and the season lineup.

Baby's First Fair

I was honored to be asked to create a piece of art for the permanent collection of Snohomish County.
